Third Avenue does a lot of the damage. Under the expressway the roadbed is broken up and truck traffic never stops, so stones kick off tires at windshield height, and a chip picked up near 39th Street can run into a foot-long crack once the temperature drops overnight. The industrial blocks by Bush Terminal add gravel, banding straps and dropped hardware. On the residential side the problem is proximity: cars park bumper to bumper on the numbered streets, and a door swung hard in the dark takes out a mirror or a vent glass. Break-ins here mostly cost people a door window, tempered glass that collapses into thousands of blunt pieces across the seat. And the hill above Fifth Avenue means parking under mature trees, which is where falling limbs find back glass.
From anywhere in 11220 or 11232, the simple version is to get onto 39th Street or 50th Street heading east, then pick up Fort Hamilton Parkway and follow it southwest toward 55th Street. Under two miles, about ten minutes when the trucks are not stacked up. Coming down Fourth or Fifth Avenue works just as well. There is usually curb space on the side streets off the Parkway, and if a chip repair is all you need, half an hour in the waiting area covers it.
