Yes, with one caveat: where the car parks decides everything. Most vehicles down here live in a garage, and if the attendant lets us occupy a bay, the van handles windshields and door glass on site. If not, the run through the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel to Borough Park is short. Windshields are $250 to $450 installed.

Nowhere else on our map turns on a garage attendant's answer. Below Canal Street a resident's car spends its life on a stacked ramp or in a monthly space under a Battery Park City tower, and a mobile job lives or dies on whether we can hold one bay for an hour and a half. Some garages are fine with it, particularly in the morning before the commuter churn starts. Others will not have it at all. Ask before you book, because a van with nowhere to stand has driven for nothing.
When the garage says no, the shop is a straight run under the harbor, and the work is identical at either end. We are glass tradespeople: this business cuts, edges and fits flat glass for South Brooklyn buildings, and the automotive side grew out of that. A windshield is laminated and structural, bonded into the body, so the opening gets cleaned back, primed where primer belongs and given a fresh bead. Nothing is reused. Cameras behind the mirror are recalibrated. Insurance goes direct to the carrier and chips are frequently covered in full.
Downtown punishes glass in small ways rather than dramatic ones. The FDR Drive runs up the east side with its low walls and constant lane shifts, West Street takes the other flank, and between them sit the narrow Financial District streets, the double-parked delivery blocks around Canal Street and sidewalk sheds that have been standing for years. Cars get squeezed. A mirror clips a scaffold pole, a door swings into a concrete column, stone off open roadwork pits a windshield at fifteen miles an hour. Street parking, where it exists at all, comes with signage you read twice and a cleaning schedule that moves the whole block at once. So every downtown call starts with the same question from us: is there a garage bay, a loading zone with a building super who will vouch for you, or a length of curb where the vehicle can stand undisturbed for two hours?
“Professional, reliable, and a pleasure to work with. Great quality and excellent service. Highly recommended! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐”
Damage here rarely comes from speed. It comes from proximity. A car parked three inches off a column loses mirror glass to somebody in a hurry. Facade work and scaffolding drop grit and the occasional dropped fastener onto whatever sits below, which laminated glass takes as a chip and tempered side glass takes as a total loss. Approaches to the bridges and the tunnel are permanently under repair, so the loose stone is right at car level instead of out on an open highway. A smashed quarter light scatters cubes down into the door cavity, where they rattle for months unless somebody pulls the panel and vacuums them out properly. And a vehicle sitting in an open lot near the water cycles hot and cold all day, which walks an existing crack across the pane with no impact involved at all.
The Hugh L. Carey Tunnel puts you straight onto the Gowanus Expressway. Stay with it through Sunset Park, come off at 65th Street, and work over to Fort Hamilton Parkway; we are at 5521, a few doors from 55th. Off peak that is about 25 minutes from the Battery. The Brooklyn Bridge onto the BQE is the fallback when the tunnel is stacked, though it costs you surface miles. Side streets off the Parkway generally have curb space, which is the part downtown drivers never expect. And if getting the car out of the garage is the actual problem, ask about the van and we will work out whether your building will let us in.
Aviv Glass & Mirror works across Brooklyn and the surrounding towns — pick your neighborhood:
That is between you and the garage, and it is worth asking before you book anything. What we need is one bay, clearance over the roof and room to open the doors; ninety minutes covers most windshields plus the wait afterward. Some downtown garages will clear a corner early in the day. If yours will not, we can meet the vehicle somewhere else, or you bring it to Brooklyn.
We bill the carrier ourselves, whether the job happens under a building on Water Street or on our own floor. Comprehensive policies commonly cover glass, and a chip repair often costs the driver nothing whatsoever. Have the policy number in front of you when you call. If filing makes no sense against your deductible, we will quote you the cash price and let you decide.
It adds a step. Vehicles with forward-facing camera systems need that camera recalibrated once the new windshield is bonded in, because the glass sits in the aiming path. We handle it as part of the work whenever the vehicle is equipped. Give us the year, make and model on the phone and the quote already accounts for it, so nothing appears at the end that you did not hear about first.
Tell us the vehicle and the glass that's damaged — you'll see your price instantly, and we'll hold it for you.
