Everything on a car that is not the windshield is tempered, and tempered behaves differently. It does not crack and sit there. It lets go all at once into a heap of small blunt cubes that end up in the door cavity, the seat rails, the heater vents and the trunk well. Half of this job is retrieval. We pull the door card, clear the regulator track and the bottom of the shell, then vacuum the interior properly, because the pieces left behind are the ones that rattle inside the door for the next two years.
Back glass is its own discipline. The defroster grid is printed on the inner face and the connector tabs are soldered, so the old panel has to come out without tearing those tabs off the harness, and the new one has to seat square before the urethane grabs. Antenna lines run through the same pane on plenty of models. Quarter and vent glass is fiddly in a different way: small panes, awkward angles, clips that snap if you hurry them.
