Everything that is not the windshield is tempered, and tempered does not crack politely. It lets go all at once and fills the door cavity with rounded pebbles. So the work splits in two: sourcing the correct pane, and getting the car genuinely clean afterwards. Door glass has to match the exact door and, on plenty of models, the exact trim level, because the curvature differs. Quarter and vent glass are the fiddly pieces, frequently bonded rather than dropped into a track, and they are what we most often find bodged on cars that have been through a cheap fix before.
Back glass carries its own trap: the defroster grid is printed on the inner face and the feed tabs are soldered. Handle that carelessly and you own a window that works with dead lines across it by the first cold week. Sunroof panels get attention paid to the drain channels underneath, since those are what keep rainwater out of your headliner. A pane sitting a hair out of line will whistle at parkway speed, so the fit gets checked before the trim goes back. Cars kept a few streets from the marinas carry a particular history inside their doors. Sand blows in, salt rides along with it, and the felt run channels that guide the pane hold onto both. After a couple of seasons the window drags, the regulator strains, and the glass binds against a track it was never built to fight, which is how tempered glass ends up splitting at a corner with nobody having touched it. Sunroof drains fail the same way in slow motion: grit off the bay gathers at the corners of the tray, water backs up behind it, and the first heavy rain drips onto the passenger seat. With the panel out we clear those channels rather than laying new glass over an old fault.
