Everything on a car that is not the windshield is tempered, which means it does not crack, it lets go all at once into thousands of blunt cubes. Those cubes end up in the door cavity, under the seat rails, inside the window channel and along the carpet seams, and if they stay there the regulator grinds and your new pane comes back scratched. So the strip-down matters: door card off, vapor barrier peeled back carefully and resealed, cavity vacuumed properly, run channels cleared before anything new goes in.
Back glass is its own discipline. The defroster grid is printed onto the surface and the antenna often runs with it, so tabs and connectors have to be transferred without tearing a line, and the bed of urethane has to sit clean around the pinch weld. Quarter and vent panes are fiddly by nature, small shapes in awkward frames, and that is exactly the kind of work a shop which started out cutting and edging flat glass tends to be good at. Sunroof panels get the same treatment, with the drain channels cleared before the new glass beds down. If a mirror went with the window, say so on the call and we will bring both. In 11226 this is mostly a break-in job, and it arrives in the morning. Cars left on the street overnight around Nostrand Avenue and the blocks east of Ocean Avenue lose a rear door window, and the owner finds the pile at the curb on the way to work.
