There is no patching a side window. Tempered glass is heat-treated so that it fails safe, and once it has failed there is nothing left to bond to; the only fix is a new pane and a careful reassembly. The regulator and the run channels get checked before anything goes in, because a bent channel will chew a brand-new window inside a month. Clips and seals are replaced rather than persuaded back into place, and the door card returns without the rattles that give away a rushed job. Frameless door glass on a coupe needs its height and tilt reset afterward, or the seal misses the roof rail at speed.
Rear windows take longer than side ones and cost a little more, mostly because of the heating grid and the bonded perimeter. Aligning a back pane is closer to flat-glass work than to bodywork: it wants to sit square in its aperture, evenly supported, with the bead consistent the whole way around.
